Philosophy

The Leadership Engagement & Development (L.E.A.D.) department at Texas A&M University-Commerce believes that leadership can be learned and that all individuals are capable of being leaders.  Leaders follow many different paths in life and do not need to hold a position or have a title to make a difference.

Leaders understand that each individual possesses their own unique set of values and beliefs.  As a result, leadership is an ethical process of mutual influence between leaders and followers.

L.E.A.D.  endorses the practice of unselfish service as an essential aspect of leadership.  Leaders are curiously engaged with topics of cultural diversity in order to become active participants in a globally connected world.  Leadership equips individuals with the necessary skills to enact social change for the common good of their communities.
