Graduate Assistant Program

We are looking for two Graduate Assistants for 2021-2023. The mission of our graduate assistantship program is to foster the development of upcoming recreational professionals by immersing them in a holistic, experiential, and hands-on recreation experience.  

Graduate assistantships available:

  • Marketing (1) - The review begins on April 12.
  • Outdoor Adventure (1) - The review begins on April 5.

If you are a non TAMUC student, you must contact Bethany Ferrall ( or 903-468-3223) with your full name and email to set up your Handshake account before you can apply. This process is really quick. Once in Handshake, you can search the code listed in each job description to apply for that position.

Preference will be given to those applicants who submit completed applications via Handshake. DO NOT submit via Bluefish.

Applying and Hiring Information - Current Students

We utilize a hiring process that resembles what students will face after they graduate from A&M Commerce which includes resume review, interviews, and skill tests. Our typical hiring phases are August/September, October/November, February for Lifeguards, and March/April for Summer and Fall Employment.     • Lifeguard - Summer (Start April 19) and Fall (Start August 23)
    • Operations Assistant - Summer (Start April 19) and Fall (Start August 23)
    • Intramural Sports Officials - Fall Only (Start August 23)
    • Marketing Assistants - Summer (Starts April 19) - Must be able to work in the next academic year as well.

    • Outdoor Adventure Staff - Summer (Start April 19) and Fall (Start August 23)
  • Applicants can only apply for a max of two positions.
  • All Campus Rec positions are work-study eligible. Please apply for the work-study position on Handshake. If you aren’t sure if you have federal/texas work-study please the financial aid website.
  • Applicants must apply with a resume on Handshake.
  • Applicants will have to answer three questions as part of an external application when they apply through Handshake. DO NOT EXIT THE TAB THAT OPENS.  After completion, please return to Handshake and click "YES" to the question that asks, "Did you finish your application?". Once you answer yes, you will see the words, “Application Submitted” and the process will be complete.
  • Failure to fully complete both the Handshake application and the position external application will result in an incomplete application.
  • We highly recommend visiting Career Development for help with your resume and interviewing skills.
  • We do not review applicants until the application close date. It then takes a few days to review all applicants before you hear back from someone.  
  • All applicants are contacted via their university leomail concerning the status of their applications by March 19, if they advance to interviews.
  • Please do not email the staff regarding the status of your application.

If hired:

  • You must attend:
    • CPR/AED/FA Course: April 6-15, 4 online and 4 in-person, non paid
    • In-person HR on-board: April 15 or 16, 30 minutes, non-paid
    • Department and Risk Management Orientation: April 20 or 21: 2 hours, paid
    • Area Training and Shadow Training: April 22 and on, 5-10 hours, paid
  • You'll need hard copies of identification documents from this list.
  • If you are an international student, please refer to this website for information.
  • If you are a work-study student, you must have a work-study permit and email it to your new supervisor to begin the hiring process. Check your financial aid portal on my Leo, accept the award, complete the training, receive your work permit from Financial Aid, email the work permit to your supervisor once you receive it.   
  • You can only be hired into one position to start your employment with Campus Recreation.
  • You can only work up to 19 hours per week between all A&M-Commerce on-campus jobs during the fall and spring semesters.
