A&M-Commerce Faculty Honored at Luncheon

COMMERCE, TX - The Faculty Senate of Texas A&M University - Commerce will be presenting awards to members of the faculty from 2-4 p.m. April 15 in the conference rooms of the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
This will be the first year that these awards will be given by the Faculty Senate. This year only, both the recipient and the awards' namesakes will be honored at the luncheon, henceforth, only recipients will receive awards.
"The Faculty Senate thought this to be a great way to honor past and current faculty" Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, president of the Faculty Senate, said. "We wanted the awards to be a representation of the impact that these faculty members have had upon the university."
Award recipients include:
Dr. Mary Druhan, associate professor of music, was awarded the James "Jim" Vornberg Award for Teaching.
Dr. Jason Davis, associate professor of educational leadership, was awarded the Steven S. Shwiff Award for Innovation in Learning.
Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, assistant professor of counseling, was awarded the R.N. Singh Award for Service.
Dr. Bill Thompson, professor of sociology and criminal justice, was awarded the Augustine "Chuck" Arize Award of Imagination in Teaching.
Dr. Anil Chourasia, professor of physics, was awarded the Dev R. Chopra Award for Research.
Dr. Joyce Scott, associate professor of educational leadership, was awarded the Richard Lampe Award for Integrity in Education.
Three new awards have been added to the list, all of which are taken from the university's founder William Leonidas Mayo's motto of "ceaseless industry, fearless investigation, unfettered thought." These awards were named after faculty that best exemplify the values represented by each part of the motto.
Recipients of these awards include:
Dr. Dan Edelman, assistant professor of accounting, economics and finance, was awarded the Madeline Justice "Unfettered Thought" Award.
Dr. Ben Jang, department head and professor of chemistry, was awarded the Trezzie Pressley "Ceaseless Industry" Award.
Dr. Derald Harp, associate professor of agricultural sciences, was awarded the Donna Dunbar-Odom "Fearless Investigation" Award.
