A&M-Commerce faculty receive teaching excellence award

Twenty-four Texas A&M University-Commerce faculty members were named as recipients of the Spring 2011 Student Recognition Award for Teaching Excellence.

            The award is bestowed by A&M system chancellor Dr. Michael D. McKinney and is awarded to teachers who have had an outstanding impact on their students. The teachers are chosen based on student responses to a uniform faculty evaluation form created with input from the Presidents and Provosts of the system, faculty senates, the Chancellor’s Student Advisory Board and Chancellor’s office.

            Award recipients from A&M-Commerce include Dr. Ka Sai Un, Dr. Thomas Faulkenberry, Dr. R. Daniel Creider, Dr. Kaiqi Xiong and Dr. Jose Lopez of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Alma Mintu-Wimsatt, Mr. Perry Moler, Dr. Julie McElhany, Dr. Christine Alexander, Ms. Tina Lancaster, Dr. Gordon Heslop, Dr. Mildred Pryor, Dr. Kishor Guru-Gharana, Mr. Jason Burton, Dr. Augustine Arize and Dr. Sonia Taneja of the College of Business and Ms. Susan Williams, Dr. Karin Tochkov, Dr. Lee Waller, Dr. Agnes Stryker, Dr. Linda Openshaw, Dr. Tara Tietjen-Smith, Ms. Holly Keddington and Dr. William Humbert of the College of Education and Human Performance.

            Recipients receive monetary awards which vary from $2,500 to $10,000 depending on where they are placed in the award ranking. The program was initiated by McKinney at the main A&M campus, the Prairie View campus and the Kingsville campus in 2008 as a way to reward the system’s teachers.

            Faculty members who teach classes worth at least three hours credit and have at least sixteen students are eligible for the award.
