A&M-Commerce Hosts Texas' Best Physics Teachers, Scientists and National Medal of Honor Recipient Oct. 7-8

COMMERCE,TX (Oct. 4, 2011)--Texas A&M University-Commerce will host Texas’ best physics teachers and distinguished scientists in academic and education research October 7-8 in the Rayburn Student Center and Science Building for the annual fall meeting of the Texas Section of American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers and the Chapter 13 of the Society of Physics Students.

The two-day event will include presentations of research accomplishments, opportunities to discuss the best way to enroll minorities in the Texas educational system and improving the quality of science in our state. The event is organized and chaired by Dr. Bertulani, Physics and Astronomy Department of A&M-Commerce.

Dr. Richard Tapia, mathematics professor at Rice University and National Medal of Science recipient, will present “Minority Recruiting” at 9:30 a.m. on October 7. Tapia is internationally known for his research in the computational and mathematical sciences, and a national leader in education and outreach programs is recently received the National Medal of Science from President Obama, the highest scientific award in the U.S.
