A&M-Commerce SACS Warning Lifted

Commerce, TEXAS (Dec. 9, 2011)— Texas A&M University-Commerce was officially informed this week that its warning from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the university’s accrediting agency, had been lifted.  This action is the result of a vote taken by the SACS Board of Trustees on December 5 at the annual conference in Orlando. The announcement was made at the business meeting of the College Delegate Assembly on December 6. 

“The warning issued earlier this year was the result of a judgment by a peer review team that the university had not satisfactorily documented its compliance with Core Requirement 2.8 of the Principles of Accreditation,” said Dr. Dan Jones, A&M-Commerce president. “This Core Requirement states that the university must document that it has a sufficient number of full-time faculty to ensure the quality of its academic programs.  The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs submitted a detailed response to the warning which included comprehensive documentation about the critical and central role that full-time faculty play in the life of the university in both teaching and governance.”

Jones extended a special note of thanks to the university’s faculty and staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the process.
