Gift Improves Technology in the Classroom

COMMERCE, Texas (Jan. 13, 2012)— Thanks to the generosity of Pittsburg native Dona Julian Cassel, education students at Texas A&M University-Commerce now have the opportunity to pursue innovation and technology in the classroom.
The gift was part of a larger commitment to enhance the Dona Julian Cassel Creative Technology Classroom in the College of Education and Human Services. The resources the gift provides will allow students to integrate effective uses of technology across the teacher education program by (a) providing opportunities for faculty to develop and apply technology skills to enhance their teaching, research, writing, and service activities, and (b) providing opportunities for pre-service, in-service, and graduate teacher education students to develop and apply technology skills to enhance the teaching/learning process.
According to Cassel, the classroom will be developed and staffed by some of the most technologically advanced faculty at A&M-Commerce who are committed to remain on the cutting edge of technology.
Cassel is a 1967 graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. In 1971, she received a master’s degree in English. A retired teacher, Cassel spent most of her career in Tyler until choosing to retire in Pittsburg. She is currently an active member of the East Texas Medical Center Foundation, Northeast Texas Community College Foundation and several other organizations in the area. In addition to assisting organizations in the area, she is an active poet.
