Two Staff Members Receive Rising Star Award

By Sydni Walker

COMMERCE, TX – Two Texas A&M University-Commerce staff members were honored recently with The Rising Star Award by the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC). Clark Mitchell, senior recruiter, and Demetra Durham, associate director of undergraduate admissions each received the honor, given to people with five or less years of experience in the field who have provided outstanding service to TACAC.

Demetra Durham has been a member of TACAC’s conference committee for five years, volunteering for various functions including Camp College. She worked with the Mentorship Committee, learning from a past Rising Star. Now, she is the committee chair. Durham also played an important part in bringing the HEART Series to life, which provides a networking forum for admission professionals in Texas.

Clark Mitchell has served as co-chair of the National Association for College Admission Counseling Austin College Fair, was head of the conference golf tournament and was selected as membership co-chair.

“I feel very honored to have been nominated for the Rising Star Award,” Mitchell said. “It is hard to put into words what it means to be a recipient of this award. I hope to continue to grow professionally and bring new ideas to the undergraduate admissions office at A&M-Commerce."

Chartered in 1979, the TACAC is an affiliate of the NACAC and supports its mission to advance the work of counseling and enrollment professionals as they help all students reach their full educational potential. The TACAC values service, professionalism, mutual respect, cooperation and communication, creativity and innovation, diversity and individualism, and ethics.
