Student’s Experience:

My name is Rochana Kaushik and I am a graduate student pursuing my Masters degree in Business Analytics at Texas A&M University-Commerce. I will be receiving my Graduate Degree in Fall 2016/Spring 2017. I work as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Institutional Effectiveness and Research; Quality Enhancement Plan and Global Learning department under the supervision of Dr. Shonda Gibson. After graduation my goal is to pursue a career in Project Management or IT Business Analytics.

On April 7, 2016, I presented at the 2016 Annual Research Symposium. My research involved the Global Competence Aptitude Assessment (GCAA) instrument that is employed by the Quality Enhancement Plan to assess first-time, full-time, incoming freshman students’ Global Competence. In the study we examined the reliability and the validity of the instrument and analyzed if there were any significant mean differences in the scores we collected from students in four colleges and one school at Texas A&M University-Commerce. My oral presentation on this subject won first place at the 2016 Annual Research Symposium for the College of Business.

As a Graduate Research Assistant, I have had the opportunity to participate in different symposiums and learn from the experiences. To date, I have participated in two Annual Research Symposiums and one Graduate Research Symposium at Texas A&M University-Commerce, one Annual Research Pathways Symposium at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and one Federation Graduate Student Research Symposium at Texas Women’s University. Being able to attend and compete in these symposiums has helped me expand my horizon in learning about different research areas and topics in various disciplines. I am still learning from these experiences and pushing myself to do better. Being present at these events has helped me network with faculty members, students and staff from various departments and institutions.
