  • The Department’s main focus is on student learning and the development of skills that prepare them for the demands of the global business environment. The combination of educational and real world application give the students at Texas A&M University-Commerce an active and engaging learning experience.
  • The Economics & Finance Society, an active student organization, assists in the professional, educational, and social development of students interested in finance and economics. The Society strives to bring students, faculty, alumni, and other professionals together to help prepare members for challenges that may await young professionals entering the workforce
  • Students are encouraged to pursue professional designations, such as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification, Chartered Financial Analyst designation, or Certified Professional Forecaster and Advanced Certified Professional Forecaster designation upon completion of their coursework. Selected classes within the economics and finance degree curriculum are tailored to help prepare students for portions of the exams for these designations.

Accounting, Economics and Finance

  • The Department faculty have wide ranging expertise in all major areas of economics and finance, including economic impact modeling, forensic economics, corporate disclosures, competitive strategy, investment strategy, financial markets, applied econometrics, and mutual fund investing. They endeavor to produce research that focus on topics of interest to researchers and practitioners, which can be found in many scientific journal publications.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the certification mark Certified Financial Planner™ in the United States, which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.

The Chartered Financial Analyst is a trademark owned by the CFA Institute.

The Department of Economics and Finance at Texas A&M University-Commerce is committed to providing quality academic programs to prepare students with the skills, knowledge, and technologies required to succeed in future careers in today’s complex business environment.

With highly qualified faculty having impressive academic credentials as well as the wide-ranging professional experience, students have access to an unparalleled variety of courses reflecting the latest market practices and research findings.

In addition to a rigorous and integrated core curriculum, students have the opportunity to engage in a number of additional opportunities, including the opportunity to participate in the finance industry through internship programs, the opportunity to train and achieve the industry coveted “Bloomberg Certification” through the Bloomberg Professional™ acquired by the department, and the opportunity to take courses tailored to the exams for professional designations, such as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification, Chartered Financial Analyst designation, or Certified Professional Forecaster and Advanced Certified Professional Forecaster designation.
