Dr. Humphreys' Biography

Dr. John H. Humphreys is Professor of Management in the College of Business and Technology at Texas A&M University-Commerce and a member of the Texas A&M University System graduate faculty. His interests range from organizational leadership, motivation, and strategy to managerial ethics and history. His work has appeared in numerous venues including the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Thunderbird International Business Review, Business Horizons, the Journal of Management Inquiry, Management Decision, the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, the Leadership & Organizational Development Journal, the Journal of Management History, Management & Organizational History, the Journal of Services Marketing, the Journal of Business and Management, the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, the Journal of Business Strategy, Cross-Cultural Management, Industrial Management, Business Week Online, and Measuring Business Excellence.  His articles have been cited in various articles and books, as well as the New York Times.

The winner of numerous best paper awards, he is a three-time winner (2003, 2008, 2010) of the best paper on leadership given by the Management History division of the Academy of Management and the 2012 winner of the Halloran Award for the best paper on business ethics.  Further, his scholarship has been selected as "outstanding articles of the year" by the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, the Journal of Management History, and the Journal of eCommerce and Psychology.  In the international arena, Dr. Humphreys' primary expertise is China where he has served as a visiting professor at Shandong University (Jinan) and a Fulbright Scholar at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (Dalian).  He has also taught at the Sarajevo Graduate School of Business in Bosnia, the Belgrade Graduate School of Business in Serbia, and the A&M Commerce joint programs in Rabat, Morocco.  In addition, he serves as a frequent reviewer for various publications and is an Editorial Board Member of Thunderbird International Business Review, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, the Journal of Management History, the Leadership and Organizational Development Journal, the Journal of Management Research, the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship. Further, he has served as a Editor for the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, Regional Editor (North America and Europe) for Chinese Management Studies, and as the division chair of the Management History division of the Academy of Management.

He is a member of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for Collegiate Schools of Business, Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society, and the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for business, management and administration.  Prior to joining academia, Dr. Humphreys held a leadership position with a multi-billion dollar financial services organization.
