Mission

The Mission of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management is to provide exposure to skills and careers in the growing fields of retailing, sales management, and human resources, while providing for flexibility for support in additional areas. This major provides students with backgrounds in strategic management, operations management, decision-making, and the organizational activities of management.

In addition, students will demonstrate competencies in supervision, human resource management, sales, retailing, and entrepreneurship.

COURSE INFORMATION

MGT 305 - Management and Organizational Behavior

This course provides a comprehensive analysis of individual and group behavior in organizations. Its purpose is to provide an understanding of how organizations can be managed more effectively and at the same time enhance the quality of employees work life. Topics include motivation, rewarding behavior, stress, individual and group behavior, conflict, power and politics, leadership, job design, organizational structure, decision making, communication and organizational change and development.

MGT 307 - Operations Management

This course presents the design and planning activities involved in managing goods and/or service producing organizations. Included are such topics as demand forecasting, system design, aggregate planning and control, scheduling, and quality management. Along with the development of planning and controlling skills, special emphasis is given to the application of these tools with electronic spreadsheets.

MGT 308 - Entrepreneurial  Strategy 

This  course introduces  students  to  the challenges   of  owning, operating, and marketing a successful small business and the need for  entrepreneurial  focus in large firms

MGT 340 - Quality Management

This course analyses contemporary approaches regarding quality management in goods and service producing organizations. The course focuses on acceptance sampling and statistical process control. International quality management practices are examined including the works of Crosby, Deming, Iskakawa, Juran, Taguchi, and others.

MGT 348 - Management Dynamics

This course applies management principles to current business challenges. Methods will be those of contemporary management training programs and may include role playing, team exercises, skits, case studies and other high student involvement activities. Prerequisite: Junior Standing.

MGT 394 - Human Resource Management

This course provides a study of principles, policies, and practices related to staffing, employee development, compensation, employee and labor relations in profit, non-profit, domestic and international organizations.

MGT 438 - Compensation Management

A study of total compensation management systems is the focus of this course. Financial considerations emphasized include the environment of the employer organization, organizational policies, job analysis, job evaluation, and employee performance appraisal. Non-financial compensation components are studied from the viewpoint of the work environment and job design.

MGT 439 - Business Policy

This business capstone course provides a study of the overall functioning of various types of organizations. Emphases are given to the integration and coordination of the functional areas within the enterprise. The case method is used to provide practical experience in analysis and decision making in the solution of business problems.

MGT 441 - Purchasing and Materials Management

This course provides a study of the objectives, policies, principles, and methods of managing the supply function. Emphasis is given to the purchasing function and topics included are: materials and services planning, vendor selection and evaluation, raw materials and work in-processes inventory management, and physical distribution of finished product.

MGT 445 - Retail  Management

This is a survey course dealing with managerial principles and practices of retail operation, including store location and layout, buying prices, promotion services, and inventory control.

MGT 453 - Labor Management Relations

A study of the employment relationship in unionized settings, its development, structure and process is presented in this course. Emphasis is given to the growth of the labor movement, major provisions of present day federal labor law, institutions that have a major influence on the labor movement, contract negotiation and administration.

MGT 489 - Independent Study

Individualized instruction/research at an advanced level in a specialized content area under the direction of a faculty member. May be repeated when the topic varies.

MGT 493 - Staffing Research

This course provides an in-depth study of the staffing process which involves moving people into, through, and eventually, out of the organization. The primary emphasis is on human resource planning, recruitment, selection, appraisal, and employment laws, especially equal employment opportunity. Further attention is given to the role of research in the management function.
