Texas Teacher Residency Program

A Partnership Linking the Dallas Teacher Residency and Texas A&M University-Commerce

Seeking candidates who will spend a year as a teacher apprentice in a clinical instructor’s classroom while earning a Master of Education (MEd) in the Art of Teaching Master’s degree.

Become a Texas Teacher Resident (T-RES) and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective teacher in the classroom and a generous stipend during the apprenticeship experience.  This is your opportunity to change the lives of students in diverse communities and Texas public schools! Whether you are an undergraduate student preparing to earn a Master’s degree in education or a professional who is changing careers, we encourage you to apply to become a Texas Teacher Resident.

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree in a teaching field
• Minimum of a 2.75 GPA

BENEFITS OF THE T-RES PROGRAM INCLUDE:

• Master of Education (MEd) in the Art of Teaching 
• Intensive classroom experience with a Mentor Teacher
• Preparation for Texas Educator Certification
• $20,000 stipend for the 15-month training period (August - May)

• Participant/cohort fellowship and community

OBLIGATIONS:

• Commit to full immersion in the program
• Commit to teaching for three (3) years in a Texas public school following              T-RES completion 

T-RES Timeline:

July
Begin Master’s degree coursework (this will extend through August of the following year)

August
Residency placement with a Mentor Teacher in a Dallas area classroom

August of the following year
Complete Master’s degree coursework
