Texas Teacher Residency Program

A Partnership Linking Mesquite ISD
and Texas A&M University-Commerce

Seeking candidates who will spend a year as a Science or Mathematics teacher apprentice in a clinical instructor’s classroom while earning a Master of Education (MEd) in the Art of Teaching Master’s degree.

Become a Texas Teacher Resident (T-Res) and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective Science or Mathematics teacher in the classroom and a generous stipend plus partial tuition reimbursement for your Master’s degree. Whether you are an undergraduate student preparing to earn a Master’s degree in education or a professional who is changing careers, we encourage you to apply to become a Texas Teacher Resident.


• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field
• Minimum of a 2.75 GPA
• Less than 18 months of teaching experience


• Master of Education (MEd) in the Art of Teaching (partial tuition provided)
• Intensive classroom experience with a Mentor Teacher
• Preparation for Texas Educator Certification
• $27,500 stipend for the 15-month training period (June 1, 2014 – Aug. 31, 2015) • Participant/cohort fellowship and community
• On-going evaluation and mentoring by a T-Res coach


• Commit to full immersion in the program
• Commit to teaching for three (3) years in a Texas public school following T-Res completion 

T-Res Timeline:

June, 2014
Begin Master’s degree coursework (this will extend through Aug. 2015)

August 2014 – May 2015
Placement with a Mentor Teacher in a Mesquite ISD STEM classroom

August 2015
Complete Master’s degree coursework
