Dr. Barbara Tucker

Dr. Barbara Tucker is the Chair/Director of the Nursing Department.  She was recruited by A&M-Commerce in August 2011 to develop the proposal for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.  Dr. Tucker retired from the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) in Edinburg, Texas where she had been the Coordinator of the Master of Science in Nursing program, Director of the Nurse Practitioner program, and Chair of the Social Work Department.   During her 30 years of service there, she developed and taught in the BSN program, the MSN program, and the Nurse Practitioner program.  She also maintained a clinical practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Following her retirement in 2006, Dr. Tucker worked part-time as a faculty recruiter for UTPA and as a Nurse Practitioner.  She is currently Secretary for the Board of Directors of the Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation.  Some of her accomplishments include

  • Selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Chair of the National Nurse Practitioner Summit in Washington, DC
  • Honored as Professor Emeritus, UTPA
