School Counseling Degree Plan consists of 51 hours: 

Each course carries 3 semester hours credit                                   

Level 1 Courses (No prerequisites; 9 semester hours; Prerequisite to Level 2)

Those pursuing the School Counseling emphasis can also be eligible for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) LPC credential by successfully completing a couple of extra classes (Psy 503 and a marriage and family course).

School Counseling Emphasis

  • For those who wish to work in public school settings as a Professional School Counselor
  • In Texas, must hold a valid teaching certificate AND have 2 years of full-time, public school teaching experience
  • Designed to lead to certification as Professional School Counselor
  • With some additional coursework, can eventually lead to Licensed Professional Counselor credential in Texas
  • 10-year job outlook is GREATER THAN AVERAGE (U.S. Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook)
