Bachelor's of Social Work



Students who intend to pursue a Bachelor's of Social Work degree must apply during the second semester of their sophomore year. Application packets must be submitted to the School of Social Work office between March 1st and April 15th. Students will be notified of their acceptance before beginning their junior year.


Unconditional admission to the BSW program requires:

  • GPA of at least 2.5.
  • Satisfactory academic standing.
  • Second-Semester Sophomore status.
  • Completion of all Core Curriculum Requirements, including the specific core-courses required for the major: Human Biology (BSC 1309) and  Anthropology (ANTH 2351)
  • Completion of three (3) Social Work prerequisites with a grade of "C" or higher: SWK 225, SWK 250 & SWK 275.
  • Completion of Introduction to Sociology (SOC 1301) and Introduction to Psychology (PSY 2301) with a grade of "C" or higher.
  • Completion and submission of the application packet.

Students may complete some required prerequisites in the summer before admission. Students are expected to maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 to progress in the program.

Application Packet

In addition to filling out and turning in a signed and dated application, students are required to turn in:

  • Personal Narrative: a typed, signed and dated narrative statement describing one's interest in social work.
  • Three (3) Letters of Reference. Professional references only, no friends or family. Signed, in a sealed envelope.
  • Signed and dated Code of Conduct.
  • Transcript or DegreeWorks printout.
  • COEHS Advisement Guide
  • Passport-style headshot photo.
