Academic Programs

The School of Social Work at Texas A&M University-Commerce offers both the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) degrees.

The BSW program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 1978. The undergraduate program prepares students for generalist social work practice to provide beginning professional level services.  Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible for licensure by the State of Texas as a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW).

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 2001 and is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge of the advanced generalist model.  Four assumptions guide the advanced generalist practice curriculum: 1) MSW practice requires in-depth research-based learning opportunities; 2) Advanced generalists must be able to apply knowledge across multiple intervention levels; 3) Advanced generalist practice within the person-situation-environment paradigm and 4) Advanced generalist social work practice is a logical expression of practice for work with diverse communities.  As a result, graduates of the School of Social Work consistently demonstrate skills and abilities for engaging in complex practice tasks.
