Costa Rica and Cuba

Study Abroad

The Social Work program's opportunities for studying abroad provide the privilege of learning about Social Work through the eyes of diverse culture and experience. Students interested in study abroad opportunities must be in good academic standing and submit a completed Interest Application in the Spring semester. Interest Applications must be filled out directly on the PDF using Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or saved and filled out using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please email completed forms to Rebecca.Judd@tamuc.edu, as digital copies are preferred.

Students travel with social work faculty to Cuba during the Summer I session and are in country for nine days. Students experience Cuban culture, interact with residents in different communities, and through site visits learn about various social service systems including Cuban health care, aging services and the education system.

Costa Rica

Students travel with social work faculty to Costa Rica during the May Mini Semester and are in country for nine days. Students are provided with a general perspective on social work and social welfare policy in Costa Rica. Working in conjunction with the Texas A&M University Soltis Center, presentations by social work providers and site visits to various social service agencies in areas of health, mental health, aging, child welfare and criminal justice, students explore issues of political and economic development, environmental social movements, history and culture.
