Welcome to the Texas A&M University-Commerce Field-Based Teacher Education Program website. We are excited to work with you as you pursue your goal to become a certified teacher in the State of Texas.
Meet with an advisor to prepare your degree evaluation. If you wish to earn a certificate in Early Childhood - 6th Grade, you may consult an advisor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. If you wish to earn a certificate in 4th - 8th Grade Math, Science, Math/Science, or 4th - 8th English Language Arts and Reading you may consult an advisor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. If you wish to earn a certificate in 4th - 8th Social Studies, 8-12th Grade content areas or All Level content areas, you must consult the corresponding academic department.
Your degree evaluation will indicate the coursework necessary to meet your degree and certification requirements. Keep a copy for your records.
Admission Requirements to Field Based Program
To gain admission to the Field-Based Program, the following requirements must be met:
Submit the Early Field Experience / Program Application during ELED or SED 300;
Participate in the Admission Interview Process conducted by the Department of Curriculum & Instruction (completed during ELED or SED 300), and be recommended for admission to the program;
Completion of Basic Skills Requirements: The Reading component must be met with score of 250 or higher on Reading THEA or appropriate SAT or ACT scores; the Math component may be met with a “C” in college algebra (or appropriate test score); the Writing component may be met with “C” or better in English 1301 or 1302 (or appropriate test score);
Meet Overall GPA requirement, as determined by catalog year, i.e. 2.50 or 2.75 respectively
