Diagnostician Certification Only Application Documents Required

**To be eligible for certification only, you must hold a master's degree**

1. Application on www.applytexas.org

2. Certification Application

3. Texas Teacher Certificate

4. Teacher Service Record

5. One (1) letter of recommendation

  • Dated within two (2) years of application
  • Written by individual who is knowledgeable about applicant's functioning in school setting
  • Focuses on candidate's interest and projected success in educational    diagnostician program

6. Graduate transcript(s) including GPA

7. GRE scores if GPA below 3.5

8. $50.00 non-refundable processing fee

9. Submit a statement of goals

  • 1-2 page essay explaining why you chose this field, what goals to you plan to reach your career

10. Attend a Face to Face interview on Commerce campus

  • If invited by committee after application review

Preparation Requirements for Educational Diagnostician

SPED 524, SPED 526, SPED 528, SPED 572/PSY 572, SPED 573/PSY 573, SPED 574, PSY 691

Practicum Psy 691 requirements: 

  • Approval for Practicum is required
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Completed all coursework above. 

TExES Requirements

  • All required hours taken at Texas A&M University-Commerce as certifying institution
  • Approval for TExES when all coursework is completed or during the last semester when enrolled in Psy 691
  • When SpEd 520, SpEd/Psy 572, SpEd/Psy 573, SpEd 574 and Psy 691 are completed with a GPA of 3.50 or greater
  • An overall GPA of 3.50 over ALL coursework used for certification

Probationary Certificate Requirements

Students may apply for a probationary certificate upon successful completion of the TExES educational diagnostician (#153) and all coursework requirements for testing.
