Filing For Certification

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has established a totally paperless, online process for filing for educator certification in Texas.

Educator Certificate Application Procedures for the Professional Certificate Programs

Please read all "Requirements" and "Procedures" (below) prior to accessing the TEA online web page.

  1. Continued admission and retention in the Teacher Education Program.
  2. Successful completion of all requirements listed on the deficiency plan or in pursuit of the certification being sought, including required GPA's and appropriate tests (TExES).
  3. Service record must be faxed (Attn: Ann Reel to 903-886-5156), emailed or mailed (A&M-Commerce Educator Certification; Attn: Ann Reel; PO Box 3011; Commerce, TX 75429-3011).

Note: For those required to complete a master’s degree in pursuit of professional certification, the masters degree must be conferred by the university prior to filing for your professional STANDARD certificate.

After completion of ALL certification plan requirements, students must apply for the STANDARD certificate on-line at the TEA web page  

Application Procedures:

  1. Go to TEA website at and click on TEAL login at the top of the page.
  2. Click on "New User? Create New Account" if you are a first-time user or Log on TEAL.
  3. Follow directions on web page to apply for your STANDARD certificate. Select TAMU Commerce (University Based Program)
  4. Pay online appropriate fees to TEA.
  5. Complete all requirements of the National criminal history background check (if applicable).

* You will receive an email confirmation from TEA after the university has completed its recommendation. Please DO NOT call to check status. This can be checked on-line. Once all activities have successfully been performed, TEA will process the issuing of the certificate. The certificate will be issued and placed on the TEA website under the "Official Record for Educator Certificates,". Paper certificates are no longer mailed to the student.

Note: Records that are not fully processed within 60 days will be deleted. If deleted, you will be required to file again through TEA Online.
