Virgil Scott

Virgil Scott

Virgil Scott's, professional graphic design career has been based in Dallas for 30 years where he has functioned as a partner, owner and creative director in various creative design environments. Forming Scott Design in 1990, Scott has created niches in designing restaurant collateral programs, consumer and business to business solutions for commercial real estate clients and identity programs for national and international entertainment and hospitality venues. Scott has been a consistent recipient of both local and national design awards being recognized by theDallas Society of Visual Communications, Print Magazine and Communication Arts Magazine. Scott's letterpress work was recently included in The LIttle Book of Letterpress, published by Chronicle Books.

Scott is an assistant professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce, teaching in the Visual Communication program at the Universities Center at Dallas Campus. He teaches typography, design, creative methodologies and pedagogy classes in both the undergraduate, and graduate program. Scott created, authored, and implemented the current MFA Visual Communication program, and serves as graduate coordinator.

Scott's current letterpress print work is based in re-purposing vintage letter press equipment as a modern day creative tool of expression. In 2008, after much joyous collecting, rescuing and resurrecting of vintage letterpress equipment, Virgil Scott and Kim Neiman opened Studio 2o4 in Arlington, Texas. Using a 1949 Vandercook flat-bed letterpress, and an 1897 Chandler Price platen press they design and print limited edition posters, cards, books and everything else. Their work utilizes vintage wood type, metal type and hand carved linoleum block images to create custom projects for commercial clients, retail sales and public gallery exhibitions.
