ETWMP Interns

Victoria (Bass) Paille worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Paille conducted 14 interviews for the project. Paille’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Personal Memories Cut Short: World War II and the Garretts. Paille is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Austin Baxley worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2015 and worked as the Project’s Graduate Assistant from 2015-2016. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Baxley conducted 24 interviews for the project. Baxley’s undergraduate honors thesis was titledCreating Como-Pickton: A Study on the Integration and Consolidation of Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District. Baxley is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in History at Texas A&M University-Commerce and teaches history in Como, Texas.

Rachel Branch worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2015-2016. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Branch conducted 12 interviews for the project. Branch currently works at Outdoorsmen Church in Missoula, Montana.

Brianna Crews worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2016. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Crews conducted 9 interviews for the project. Crews’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Upward Bound and Collegiate Success: A Qualitative Evaluation of Upward Bound Program’s Federal Objectives. Crews is currently pursuing a degree in Law at William and Mary Law School, Williamsburg, VA.

Courtney Crumpton worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Crumpton conducted 19 interviews for the project.  Crumpton’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled “I’s Just a Soldier…..”: Self-Perceptions of War Veterans from the ‘Greatest Generation’ and the Construction of Heroism in Society. Crumpton is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at the University of North Texas.

Jackson Dailey worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Dailey conducted 47 interviews for the project. Dailey’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Masters of Chaos: Tank Innovation and its Impact on Crew Members in Light Tanks.

Alexander Darschewski worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in Fall 2016. He conducted two interviews and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and pursue a career in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Dennis Donald worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in 2016. Donald served in the US Army from 2004 to 2014 and retired as a Staff Sergeant. Donald conducted 2 interviews for the project. Donald is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in history at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Allan Folsom worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2015-2016. Folsom served in the US Air Force as a combat Medic from 1982 to 2016 and retired as a Master Sergeant. Folsom conducted 6 interviews for the project. Folsom is currently pursuing his master’s degree in history at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Madison Garcia worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2015-2016. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Garcia conducted 9 interviews for the project. Garcia is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Kyle Hackney worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in 2013. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Hackney conducted 4 interviews for the project.

Jacob Ham worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in 2013. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Ham conducted 4 interviews for the project. Ham currently studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Hayley Hasik worked as an intern and student coordinator for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Hasik conducted 31 interviews for the project. Hasik’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Faded Memories: War and Memory and the Preservation of Soldiers’ Stories. Hasik is currently pursuing a PhD in history at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Jennifer Hinds worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in 2016. A member of the Texas State Guard, Hines conducted 2 interviews for the project. Hines is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Michelle Hodge worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in Fall 2016. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Hodge conducted 2 interviews and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history.

Layne Little worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in Fall 2016. Little conducted 2 interviews for the Project and is pursuing a major in history in addition to playing volleyball for Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Macy McCroskey worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2014-2015. A Texas A&M University-Commerce Regents’ Scholar, McCroskey conducted 1 interview for the project.

Margo McCutcheon worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2014-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, McCutcheon conducted 4 interviews for the project. McCutcheon’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Remember, Remember, the 24th of November: A Case Study on the Intersection of History, Memory, and the Atchley Family. McCutcheon is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in History at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Sarah Miller worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Miller conducted 13 interviews for the project. Miller’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Internment Across the Atlantic: The Captivity Experience of German and American POWs During World War II. Miller is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in history at Texas Christian University.

Meredith Shaw worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in 2013. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Shaw conducted 1 interview for the project. Shaw currently works with the Upward Bound educational program.

Nick Sprenger worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013-2014.  A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Sprenger conducted 7 interviews for the project. Sprenger’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled The Chaos Within: The Story of Sam Merrill and the ‘Good War’ Narrative. Sprenger is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history at Texas A&M University-Commerce

Travis Ueckert worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2013 to 2014. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Ueckert conducted 24 interviews for the project. Ueckert’s undergraduate honors thesis was titled Taking the War to the Enemy: The Story of Major Richard Clement. Ueckert currently teaches English at Rockwall ISD.

Brittany Walker worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project in Fall 2016. Walker conducted 2 interviews and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in History with a teaching certification.

Samantha Weeks worked as an intern for the East Texas War and Memory Project from 2014-2015. A student of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Honors College, Weeks conducted 6 interviews for the project. Weeks currently works at the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville, Texas.
