Scholarships

There are quite a few scholarship opportunities endowed by our generous donors. Apply for all the scholarships you qualify for. Applications must be complete and received in the Scholarship Office by the posted deadline. Applications forms are available in the main office (HL-141) and can be found on the Scholarship Offices' website.

Paul Wells Barrus Undergraduate Scholarship:  $350 Scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Spanish or English. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 in a major and 3.2 overall: must have completed 9 hours in advanced coursework in major: (2) combined SAT score of 1000 or an ACT score of 21; (3) Letter of recommendation from two instructors at A&M-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a Professor from the student’s major; (4) statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge gained from the student’s major will enrich professional career or personal life, of both; and (5) complete application form. 

Paul Wells Barrus Graduated Scholarship: $350 Scholarship awarded to graduate student majoring in Spanish or English. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 or higher in graduate work in the major; (2) Letter of recommendation from two instructors at A&M-Commerce; at least one letter must be from a professor in the student’s major; (3) must have no incompletes at the time of the application deadline; (4)  a statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge you gained from your graduate work will enrich you professional career or personal life, or both; and (5) complete application form.  

Mary Rivers Bowman Graduate Scholarship: $ 500 scholarship awarded to a graduate student in English. Requirements: (1) Must be a graduate student in English; (2) must be currently enrolled in the graduate courses in English; (3) must be enrolled for a minimum of six hours of graduate English course for Summer l and/or Summer ll at A&M-Commerce; (4) must demonstrate financial need; (5) must have satisfactory GPA in a graduate courses; (6) must have no incompletes at the time of the application deadline; (7) must submit a statement requesting consideration and 2-4 paragraphs describing financial need; and (8) completed application form. 

James W. Bryd Undergraduate Scholarship: $350   Scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior students majoring in English or Spanish. Requirements: (1) GPA 3.0 or higher in a major, and 3.0 overall and must have completed 9 hours in advanced coursework in major by application deadline; (2) letters of recommendation from two or more instructors at A&M-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a professor from the student’s major; (3) statement of 300- 500 works on either (a) why students is interested in a multi-cultural or multi-ethnic literature of folklore, or (b) how the study of multi –ethnic literature of folklore will enrich student’s professional or personal growth; and (4) completed application form. 

Adelle Rogers Clark Graduate Scholarship: $500 Scholarship awarded to a graduate student majoring in English or Spanish. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 or higher in major; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors and A&M-Commerce, one of whom must be a professor in the student’s major ; (3) a statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge gained will enrich the student’s life or professional career, or both;(4) a complete application form.  

Charles and Ernestine S. Linck Undergraduate Scholarship: TWO $500 need-based scholarships awarded to a junior or senior English majors, focusing on the study if literature, and whose goal is teaching and/or research. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.0 or higher in the major and overall and must have complete 9 hours in advanced coursework in major by application deadline; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at A&M-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a professor from student’s major; (3) a statement of 2-4 paragraphs describing financial need; (4) a complete application form.
