About Dr. Klypchak:
Dr. Carrie Klypchak’s teaching areas at TAMU-C include undergraduate and graduate courses in acting, directing, voice, movement, and performance theory/history. She considers herself an educator first and foremost and spends most of her time mentoring and guiding students.
Dr. Klypchak believes in cultivating a dynamic relationship between research and practice, and her professional work reflects this focus. She is an active teaching artist across the state of Texas, as well as a professional actor, dramaturg, performance scholar, and director. She is also a certified Meisner Acting Teacher. She possesses numerous professional acting and directing credits from New York, Texas, and Ohio. She is currently a core artistic member and the Literary Manager of Austin’s award-winning Capital T Theatre. With Capital T, she has served as dramaturg for numerous productions, starred in the one-woman show, Kawaisoo, co-directed, conceived, and played the role of Reba Faith Cundiff in the world premiere of the satirical play I Heart Walmart, and directed Week 40 of Suzan-Lori Parks’ 365 Days/365 Plays. Her directing credits at TAMU-C’s University Playhouse include An Experiment with an Air Pump, In the West, The Underpants, Still Life with Iris, The Bird and The Bee, the world premiere of Don Nigro’s Iphigenia, and Colorado. She is the author of the 2009 book, Salient Negotiations: Devising and Surviving as Alternative Theatre Artists in the 21st Century, and a number of published journal articles and reviews. She also currently serves as the Performance Review Editor for Texas Theatre Journal. Amongst other service activities for professional organizations, Dr. Klypchak contributes as the College/University Vice President and an Executive Board of Directors Member of the Texas Educational Theatre Association. She has recently been honored as a state judge for the 2012 U.I.L. One-Act Play AA Contest.
Dr. Klypchak lives in Commerce with her husband, Brad. She uses any free time that presents itself to travel with her husband, “mother” her puppy, and read mystery novels.
