Graduate Admission Requirements

We're excited you are interested in pursing your next level of higher education! 

Below you will find our Department of Music admissions requirements. 

For more detailed information on our application process, check out our "Department of Music Graduate Application Checklist". This checklist is designed to guide you along the admissions process and will provide you with methods available for submitting your application materials.

U.S. Resident

  • Apply to the Graduate School
  • Apply to the Music Department
  • Application Fee - $50                
  • Official Transcripts – Request official transcripts from all institutions you have attended, including all undergraduate and graduate coursework.
  • Writing Sample - We do not have a specific topic expected.  Usually, we recommend that you send an extended paper from your undergraduate work, such as a Music History paper, Conducting analysis or similar. If you need additional suggestions, we'd be happy to discuss this with you.

  • Department Audition (For those pursuing the Performance emphasis)
  • Department Interview (For those pursuing the Education emphasis)

International

  • Apply to the Graduate School 
  • Apply to the Music Department
  • Application Fee - $75      
  • Official Transcripts & Diplomas - Request official transcripts and official copies of diplomas, translated in English, from each college or university attended.
  • Writing Sample - We do not have a specific topic expected.  Usually, we recommend that you send an extended paper from your undergraduate work, such as a Music History paper, Conducting analysis or similar. If you need additional suggestions, we'd be happy to discuss this with you.

  • TOEFL or IELTS - Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit proof of English proficiency. TOEFL Score - 79 or IELTS Score - 6.0
  • Sponsor's Statement with a current Bank Statement (Form provided below)


Deadlines 
The Department of Music accepts applications throughout the year. We do advise that international students complete their application process three months prior to the first semester they intend to enroll.
