Robert G. Rodriguez earned a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas (KU) in 2005. He also holds a B.A. from the University of California-Irvine (UCI), and a M.A. from KU. All of his degrees are in political science.
In 2010, Dr. Rodriguez joined the faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce where he teaches comparative politics with a regional focus on Latin America, in addition to courses examining U.S. and Texas politics. He also organized the first study abroad program for students at A&M-Commerce to study in Argentina, his country of heritage.
Dr. Rodriguez has been honored with two All-Texas A&M System “Student Recognition Awards for Teaching Excellence.” Additionally, his service has been recognized with several awards, including “Faculty of the Year” from the Office of Hispanic Outreach and Student Services at A&M-Commerce and a “Globalization” Award from the A&M-Commerce Employee Recognition Program.
Dr. Rodriguez’s research focuses on Latin American politics in addition to the intersections between politics and sports in the United States and abroad. In 2009, Dr. Rodriguez published a book entitled The Regulation of Boxing: A History and Comparative Analysis of Policies in the American States. He has recently had scholarly articles accepted for publication in the MidSouth Political Science Review, American Culture: An Encyclopedia, and The Interdisciplinary Journal of African Sports in addition to a popular media article in The Ring Magazine.
