  4. How does Financial Aid work?

    You have to be enrolled in at least 6 hours (2 courses) to be considered half-time and eligible for grants and loans. Full-time enrollment is 12 hours (4 courses).

  5. What is the "Mandatory Advising" hold on my student account?

    All new & transfer students have an advising hold on their account until:

    • a) you have completed the basic skills requirements (as outlined in #6 below),

    • b) you have a GPA of 2.0 or better,

    • c) you have officially filed a degree plan (in your major department office),

    • d) and have completed one full semester @ TAMU-Commerce and those grades are posted.

    Once ALL the above has occurred the hold will be lifted. If you feel this hold is in error, please contact Misty Lair at Misty.Lair@tamuc.edu or 903.886-5155. Until A thru D are complete you will have to register Misty Lair in AG/IT, 233F.

  6. Why can't I drop my Math (PJCM 306/300 or Math 131/141/175) or English (ENG 100/110/101) course? OR - What does the Basic Skills policy have to do with me?

    Please review the University Basic Skills policy to understand this rule. It really is in the best interest of the student so that we can better ensure your success in your higher educational endeavors.

  7. How do I drop and/or add a course?

REMEMBER: Dropping a course may affect your financial aid and/or your scholarships - please check with those offices before proceeding, if necessary. ALSO: If you are unable to come personally to take care of the Drop/Add because of your location, please contact the department of the course you wish to Drop/Add for clear directions to fax or email your completed form.

  9. How do I change/officially declare my major?

    You must contact department of the majoring you are changing to. Example: If you are a BAAS major and wish to change to Marketing, you must contact the Undergraduate Advisors in the College of Business.  

  10. How do I declare a minor?

    Contact the department of your major (as in #10 above). Example: If you are a Finance major who wants to add an Information Technology minor, you will go the Accounting, Economics, and Finance department to have your minor declared.

  11. What do I do if my major is in a different college, but my minor is in business?

    Contact the department that houses that minor. Example: If you are a Psychology major with a minor in General Business, you will go to the Undergraduate advisors in the College of Business.

  12. Who is my Faculty Advisor and why would I need to see him/her?

    Once you reach junior status (at least 60 hours) and have completed a semester at this university, you will meet with your faculty mentor/advisor for degree plan/evaluation questions, scheduling issues, graduation check out, general advising, and job prospects/questions. They will assist in your graduation process as well.

    You can request a transcript by mail, phone, or fax from the Office of the Registrar. Click here for more detailed information.

  16. I am graduating!!! What do I do?

    a) First you need to begin the COSE Graduation Checkout process by contacting your Academic Advisor.  Pay careful attention to the dates.

    b) You must also file for graduation with the Office of the Registrar.

    You can begin graduate course work after you receive your bachelor’s degree…sometimes even while you are finishing it up. Please visit us at the College of Science and Engineering dean's office for graduate program assistance.

    AMC Bookstore Website - Some of the Departments also have their book information online so you can plan your budget/courses accordingly.

  23. What are the minimum requirements for admission into a BAAS degree program or BGS degree program?

    For admission into the BAAS degree program or BGS degree program you should have completed minimally the following:

    50 total semester hours of college/university level course work from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

    26 semester hours in General Education including:

    • 3 SH of College Algebra or equivalent mathematics course

    • 6 SH of English Composition

    • 6 SH of American History

    • 6 SH of Natural Science including lab

  24. 24 semester hours in your Career Field/Technical/Vocational discipline

    Overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.6 on 4.0 scale
