Music Education - Domestic Students

The Department of Music offers the Master of Music degree with two areas of emphasis:  Performance and Music Education.  The Master of Music with an Emphasis in Music Education focuses on teacher training for the private studio and the elementary and secondary school levels.  Graduate students with an Emphasis in Music Education take required courses in the Graduate Music Core (music history, music theory, scholarship, and aesthetics) and their respective area of interest in music education (applied study, elementary and secondary music education methods, and literature).  In addition, they complete a final project in music education.   Prospective graduate students must audition (performance or teaching demonstration) for admission and complete diagnostic examinations-they need not take the Graduate Record Exam.  They may obtain specific requirements for the audition by contacting the Graduate Coordinator in the Music Department.  Students with a bachelor's degree in music from A&M-Commerce may use a letter of recommendation from their applied teacher(s) in lieu of an audition.
