Chemical Dependency Counseling Graduate Certificate

This certificate will prepare professionals with the necessary theories, assessments and modalities to counsel, prepare, and implement treatment plans for substance abuse clients, their families, and co-workers. Contact Dr. LaVelle Hendricks at

Certificate Requirements:

Coursework must be completed at A&M-Commerce with a 3.0 GPA on all courses used for the certificate.  Twelve semester hours from the following (no substitutions):

COUN 501 Introduction to the Counseling Profession
COUN 510 Counseling Theories and Techniques
COUN 580 Cou Substan Abuser: Drugs
COUN 581 Assessment and Treatment of Chemical Dependency

Required Documents for Admission:

  • Application fee: $50 domestic student
  • All official transcripts - Bachelor's degree, including all transcripts used towards the bachelor's degree.  Any master's degree transcript or transcripts with graduate coursework (if applicable).
