School Librarian Certification

TCRT-LIBR - School Librarian Certification

To apply for Professional Certification; click the Apply Texas application link on the right and complete a Graduate/domestic application for the School Librarian Certification program and pay the application fee.  You must submit all required documents to gain admission to the Graduate School before you can be admitted to the certification.  Once admitted to the Graduate School, you must submit a second application to the Educator Certification & Academic Services Department (CECAS). For additional information concerning the CECAS application; please contact Leesa Cannon at Leesa.Cannon@tamuc.edu.

 This office processes all applications and fees for certification and can answer questions concerning certification requirements and procedures.

You must meet one of these requirements to be considered for certification:

  • a bachelor's degree with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher, or
  • the last 60 hours of the bachelor's degree is a 3.0 or higher, or
  • an awarded master's degree with an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Admission Consideration Requirements for All Students

  • Apply Texas Application
  • Application fee:  $50 domestic student 
  • All official transcripts - Bachelor's degree, including all transcripts used towards bachelor's degree.  Any master's degree transcript or transcripts with graduate coursework (if applicable).
  • Conferred master's degree from a regionally accredited university with at least a 3.0 or higher overall GPA.
  • Proof of Valid Texas Teacher or Principal Certificate
  • Resume(Vita)
  • Please respond to the following essay topic using the guidelines given below. 
    In 500 words or less respond to the following prompt: Defining “Learner-centered”. What does the term “learner-centered” mean? In addition to telling us what you think this means, find two or more authoritative sources on this term/topic.
    • Cite the sources in APA format. Discuss the definition you found in each source, along with why you feel the source is authoritative.
    • Use Microsoft Word or equivalent (double spaced, Times Roman 12 point font, 1 inch margins).
    • Put your name and CWID at upper right hand corner of the word document with date.
  • Statement of Goals:  1-2 pages, up to 500 words.  
    Address career objectives and how the master's degree
    will help you meet those goals.
