Admissions Exams

ACT - (American College Test):

The ACT Assessment is a nationally recognized college admissions exam that tests the areas of English, Math, Reading, and Science with an optional written essay. ACT results with no essay are accepted by Texas AM University-Commerce for admission. The ACT Assessment is a curriculum based test. The questions on the ACT are directly related to what you have learned in your high school courses in English, Mathematics, and Science. The ACT is normally administered in October, December, February, April, and June.

SAT - (Scholastic Achievement Test):

The SAT measures the critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills that students have developed over time and the skills they need to be successful academically in college. The SAT assesses how well you analyze and solve problems and skills you learned in school that you'll need in college. The SAT is accepted for admissions requirements at Texas AM University-Commerce. The SAT is normally administered in October, November, December, February, March, May, and June.

RCT - (Reading Comprehension Test):

The Reading Comprehension Test (RCT) is a paper-pencil based test measuring reading comprehension levels of applicants to TAMU - Commerce. The RCT is required for admissions for students who have been out of high school more than 5 years or have received their GED. The RCT, for these students only, replaces the need for SAT or ACT scores. Scores will be reported to the examinee and the admissions office immediately upon completion of the exam. The exam can be repeated again after a 30 day waiting period.

ACT-R - (American College Test Residual):

The ACT-R is a college admissions exam that tests the areas of English, Math, Reading, and Science.  The ACT-R is a curriculum based test.  The questions on the ACT-R are directly related to what you have learned in your high school courses in English, Mathematics, and Science.  The difference between ACT and ACT-R scores is that ACT-R scores cannot be transferred to another university nor used for TSI exemption or for admission to special campus programs like the Honors College.  Questions regarding the ACT-R can be directed to the staff of the Testing Center at 903-886-5122.
