Every year we seek to put together a diverse staff, full of various experiences, backgrounds, and strengths. Becoming a member of the New Student Orientation Team is extremely competitive, but we encourage all interested students to apply. 

What is a New Student Orientation Team member?

A New Student Orientation Team member is someone who . . .

  • Is open to learning and new experiences.
  • Maintains a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and stamina when working long days.
  • Exhibits respect for others’ ideas and opinions.
  • Is an effective and clear communicator with peers, new students, faculty & staff members, parents & guests.
  • Is comfortable facilitating small and large group discussions and activities.
  • Displays a high level of maturity and an ability to use independent judgment in decision making.
  • Possesses a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of their peers and new students.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, creativity, humor, and dedication.

What are the qualifications/requirements to apply?

  • Have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA (3.0 if a graduate student)
  • Be in good standing with the University
  • Have completed at least one semester at A&M-Commerce
  • Be an enrolled and involved student at A&M-Commerce
  • Be present and available to work all Summer/Fall New Student Orientation sessions and Lion Camp
  • Participate in a bi-weekly Orientation Team meeting/training class during the Spring semester
  • Be available to participate in the NODA (National Orientation Director's Association) Regional Conference
  • Possess strong communication and presentation skills
  • Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Exemplify dedication, initiative, and self-motivation
  • Have the ability to work with a diverse population and relate to students of various backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles

How do I apply?

Orientation Team applications consists of a paper application, resume, references, and video. If you have not already received a copy of the application packet, please contact our office at orientation@tamuc.edu and we can send it to you. We also have copies available in our office at the One Stop Shop.

What is the deadline?  

The selection timeline for the 2016 Orientation Team has passed. If you are interested in joining our team, please look for more information in October 2016.
