Pride Scholarships

Pride Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with identified financial need, but no Pell Grant eligibility. Students fully admitted to Texas A&M University-Commerce are automatically reviewed for these scholarships. The automatic review process does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship offer since funding is limited. Eligible students should file a FAFSA as soon as possible for the best chance of receiving a Pride Scholarship. The scholarships only apply to the Fall and Spring semesters.

The following lists the amount of each Pride Scholarship and the possible duration of the award:

Scholarship

Amount

Duration

UPRIDE (Undergraduate)

$3,000 per year/$1,500 per semester

Up to 8 semesters

GPRIDE (Graduate)

$3,000 per year/$1,500 per semester

Up to 4 semesters

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be fully admitted to the University.
  • Complete a FAFSA that shows financial need with no Pell Grant eligibility.
  • Priority is to students who complete FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 31st.
  • Enrollment of 15(UPRIDE)/9(GPRIDE) credit hours is required each Fall/Spring semester. This scholarship will not disburse if enrollment is less than 15/9 credit hours. A semester when the scholarship does not disburse still counts against the duration of the scholarship.
  • The scholarship is renewable if 30(UPRIDE)/18(GPRIDE) credit hours are successfully completed during the academic year, even if the scholarship was not disbursed during the Fall/Spring semesters.

Note: Undergraduate students whose academic program limits their enrollment to 12 credit hours a semester are exempt from the 15 credit hour rule; they must complete 12 credit hours each Fall/Spring semester and 24 credit hours per academic year to renew the scholarship.

Renewal Eligibility Requirements:

  • Complete a FAFSA showing financial need with no Pell Grant eligibility for the academic year by the priority deadline of March 31st.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 semester and institutional cumulative GPA.

Funds will not disburse unless student is enrolled in the required credit hours for the semester. Students who are unable to meet the enrollment requirements due to limits set by their academic program, graduation, course offerings, approved disability accommodations, or other circumstances beyond the student's control may submit a Scholarship Enrollment Exception Certification Form for consideration. The form can be found at: Scholarship Enrollment Exception Form

Probation and Suspension of Scholarship

The first time a student fails to meet either the credit hour or the GPA requirement for the Pride Scholarship will result in probation for the next semester of enrollment. A notification will be sent to the student's university e-mail account. The student will still be eligible to receive the Pride Scholarship during the probation semester. After the probation semester, the student will have to meet both the GPA and credit hour requirements each semester or the Pride Scholarship will be suspended. Probation or suspension for failure to meet the semester credit hour requirements will be removed at the end of the academic year if the student meets the academic year credit hour requirement.
