Veteran's Vigil
The Vigil is dedicated each year to POW/MIAs with recognition afforded to a particular branch or section of the United States military. The 2014 opening ceremony begins on Wednesday. November 12th, at 9:30 a.m., in the Conference Room, SRSC. Following the brief ceremony, a vigil flame will be lit which continuously burns until the flame is extinguished on Thursday, November 13th, at 4:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The Vigil site will be located on the walking mall in front of the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
One important aspect of the Vigil ceremony is the posting of a guard at the site. Sentries generally serve in one-hour shifts for as many or as few shifts as they choose. If you are able to help in this area, of if you would simply like more information about the Vigil, please contact the Veterans and Military Services Office at 903-886-5123 or send an email to veteranservices@tamuc.edu. Your participation would be greatly appreciated! On online sign up site will be available soon for the volunteer vigil guarding posts.
