Send Silence Packing

Please join us for "Send Silence Packing" to end the Silence that Surrounds Mental Illness and Suicide

March 11 (Mon), 9 am to 4:30 pm

Location: North Walking Mall (outdoor, near Rayburn Student Center)

“Send Silence Packing,” an award-winning traveling exhibit, will be on the A&M Commerce campus March 11. The exhibit is designed to encourage meaningful dialogue regarding mental health concerns, raise awareness about the impact of suicide, connect individuals to mental health resources available on campus and in the area, and inspire action for suicide prevention.

The exhibit will be located on the North Walking Mall near the Rayburn Student Center from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the exhibit will be moved to the RSC. It is produced by Active Minds (, the nation’s premier nonprofit organization supporting mental health awareness and education for students. On campus, the Counseling Center and Dean of Students are sponsoring the event.

Suggestions for how to view the exhibit and follow up conversations:

Plan to spend some time during the exhibit hours to view the backpacks.

Be aware that the backpacks represent the approximate 1,100 lives lost each year on campuses to suicide.

Consider going through the exhibit with friends or classmates.

The Counseling Center will have a tent at the exhibit to provide additional information about campus and local resources.

Four opportunities are offered to discuss and share your thoughts and feelings in relation to this exhibit.

Sign up information will be provided at the exhibit for the sessions. Seating is limited.
