Operation Blue & Gold

What is Operation Blue and Gold: A Day of Service?

Operation Blue & Gold is an exciting day where the students, faculty, and staff of Texas &M University-Commerce give back to the community! Our goal is to venture outside our campus and express our gratitude to the community of Commerce by saying a big "THANK YOU" through service-oriented activities! Whether it is painting, highway pickups, or raking leaves, it is a chance for students, staff, and departments to unite as part of a collaboration initiative to beautify the City of Commerce. We are one university, one community, one family!

Our Goal

By encouraging our students to express their gratitude and appreciation to the City of Commerce, we hope to construct leaders by instilling the values and ideals of the L.E.A.D. Department through service-learning. Our goal is to cultivate the lives of our TAMUC students by connecting them to community service opportunities; we believe service to the community is an essential aspect of leadership as it creates holistic development and interpersonal growth.

The History

In Fall 2016, Dominique Smith, the Graduate Assistant under the Leadership Engagement & Development Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce, took the initiative to bring back a service-oriented project that faded out through out the years; he called it "Operation Blue & Gold: A Day of Service." Within our first year of hosting this event, we had an amazing turnout of 253 volunteers and 10 site projects! With the partnership between City of Commerce and the L.E.A.D. Department, Operation Blue & Gold will now be an annual Day of Service!!
