Wellness Release Time FAQ

For additional inquiries, please e-mail wellness@tamuc.edu

I'm a new employee. How soon can I start using this benefit?

Today! There is no waiting period. Simply read through the policy, obtain supervisor's signature, and return the application to Moira.Johnson@tamuc.edu or wellness@tamuc.edu

I work at another location. Can I still use release time?

It doesn't hurt to ask. Section 2.4 of the policy states special permission is required from the employee's vice president. You may contact your VP directly, or ask us to request permission on your behalf.

Do I need a membership to the MRC?

The policy no longer requires employees to purchase a MRC membership. However, employees are eligible for a 35% discount to the MRC. Membership includes access to all fitness classes, the climbing wall, pool, etc. Please visit the MRC website for more information.

Do I need to get a physician's clearance?

You do not need to produce any documentation for a medical exam, but if you receive health insurance benefits through our Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, we recommend you visit your doctor for an annual visit prior to June 30 to avoid a $30 monthly charge in the next coverage year. More info on benefits is available on the BCBS website. On the wellness release time application, you'll acknowledge you visited your doctor or participated in the on-campus screenings once in the past year. Screenings occur in October and March of each year!

I've already applied this year. Do I need to re-submit an application?

If you are currently signed up for wellness release time, your status will extend through August 31, 2016. If you're not sure of your status, e-mail wellness@tamuc.edu and ask! All applicants will need to submit a revised form once per academic year in the month of August. Applications for participation in the 2016-2017 school year are due by September 1, 2016.
