Undergraduate Research Grant Competition

The Texas A&M University-Commerce Undergraduate Research Grant Program offers support for research and creative activities.  This competitive program is sponsored by the President's Office, the Provost for Academic Affairs, the Vice-President for Student Access and Success, and the Vice Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies.

These grants are awarded each semester for research projects (or travel related to the research) performed under the guidance of a student's advisor.

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs has limited funds to support research assistants (Graduate Assistants-Research - GARs) for masters and doctoral students who are in the beginning dtage of their thesis or dissertation.

Research assistants (GARs) will work under the supervision of their faculty mentor on their research project during the summer.  Research Assistants who receive these funds must benefit from their work experience in that they make significant advancement toward their degree and are better prepared for their professional careers.  The Guidelines are below.

Research Symposiums

Pathways Annual Symposium

The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) invites its students and faculty to participate in Pathways Student Research Symposiums held annually at member universities. Texas A&M University-Commerce graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to present results (oral or poster presentations) from their current or past research projects, even if preliminary. These presentations will provide the student researcher an opportunity to discuss their research with participants and faculty.

The Symposiums are held each year and notice is sent by campus-wide email and campus publicity when the date is known. The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs and Graduate Studies & Research, will support all students who register by the deadline and submit an abstract for the symposium. Support includes travel (students will travel to symposium in a chartered bus), hotel and registration fee. 2017 Federation Symposium Winners

The Federation of North Texas Area Universities is a consortium of three institutions in the North Texas area: Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M University—Commerce, and the University of North Texas. The primary purpose of the Federation is to engage in institutional collaborations for excellence in selected graduate degree programs and fields of study, to facilitate graduate students’ professional development and research opportunities, and to coordinate administrative services for the benefit of graduate students at the three institutions. The Federation has operated since 1968 when it was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The next symposium will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 in Denton at Texas Women's University in Hubbard Hall.

The 9th Annual Federation Graduate Student Research Symposium will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 in the Hubbard Hall Southwest Ballroom at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. All information about the symposium can be found at

We will provide transportation for A&M-Commerce students participating in the Symposium.  The bus will leave from and return to the Commerce campus.  Once registered, you will receive additional information concerning the itinerary and where to board the university bus.

The Symposium is open to all Texas A&M-Commerce graduate students for master and doctoral level research. The Federation Research Symposium provides an opportunity for students to present research in a poster format while interacting and discussing the research with faculty, judges, and other participants. The symposium also provides the participants with a broad exposure to the Federation research community. 

A&M-Commerce Support

Travel for the Symposium will be provided by the ORSP, along with your meal at the luncheon.  This year, we have a terrific key note speaker from our own university for the Symposium.

If you would like to participate in the Symposium, please email your name, student ID, email address, title of research, and department name, along with an abstract of your research to the ORSP at  After you have received approval of your abstract, you may then register online to attend.
