Human Subjects Research:  "Social and Behavioral" Research Investigators Any person doing research, or working on a thesis, dissertation, or externally funded project that involves human subjects (surveys, interviews, certain archival data, and any human participants) Prior to working on:

  • Thesis or dissertation
  • Protocol  application for IRB
Every 3 years Online: CITI
Lab Animals or Farm Animals"Working with the IACUC" and courses specific to the research being conducted Any person doing research, or working on a thesis, dissertation, or externally funded project that involves the care and/or use of animals Prior to working on:
  • Research projects

Biosafety/Biosecurity:"Introduction to Biosafety"

Any person doing research, or working on a thesis, dissertation, or externally funded project that involves  select agents (cells, pathogens, DNA and RNA) Prior to working on:

  • Thesis or  dissertation
  • Protocol application for IBC

Export Controls (2111212) A faculty/staff member responsible for research or grant funded projects that involve pre-publication approval from the sponsor; encrypted software or encryption products;  weapons,  or research that can be utilized by the military or in space; shipping items to foreign countries  Prior to working on:
  • Research projects
  • Grant-funded projects
  • Thesis or dissertation

Reporting (2111113)
Any person working on an externally funded project Prior to working on:

Financial Conflict of Interest (2111716) A faculty member, staff member, or Graduate Assistant Researcher (GAR) who is paid to work on an externally funded project Prior to working on:

Course Completion Requirements:

CITI training courses must be completed with a minimum score of 80%. The course may be repeated as necessary to achieve the 80% score.  The time to complete the training modules can vary from 4-6 and 6-8 hours.  Individuals may exit and resume the training at any time. At the time a training is successfully completed, the certificate of completion can be printed by the trainee. A notification will be sent to you prior to the expiration of your training.  At anytime, you may return to the training modules and print a certificate or update your email address.

Face-to-Face Training

Face-to-Face trainings are usually available twice every year for the Biosafety, Responsible Conduct of Research and Protection of Human Subjects courses. To find out when the next Face-to-Face training will be offered, please visit the Trainings and Workshops page.
