Please go to www.applytexas.org to submit your application for the M.S. in
Applied Criminology. If you are new to www.applytexas.org, click “Create your account now” to create an ApplyTexas profile. Once you create a profile, select “create a new application now.” On the next screen, select “create a new graduate school admissions application.” Proceed to submit a new application for Texas A&M University-Commerce. **If you are an international student, please complete this PAPER APPLICATION instead of the application at www.applytexas.org. The paper application can be emailed to the Graduate School via Rebecca.Stevens@tamuc.edu

You may apply for any term, as we have a rolling admissions process and do not have an application deadline.

The Statement of Goals is a personal essay, telling who you are, where you are in life, professionally, educationally, and what your future goals are; as well as how earning a Master's in Applied Criminology will help you to achieve your future goals.Please email your completed Statement of Goals to the Graduate School via Rebecca.Stevens@tamuc.edu or upload to the "Document Upload System" (instructions for the "Document Upload System" are emailed to you after the University receives your application to the program).

dots WRITING SAMPLE

The Writing Sample should be an academic piece. It should reflect your ability to write at a graduate level. The sample does not need to exceed 10 pages. The topic of the paper is not important. Please email your completed Writing Sample to the Graduate School via Rebecca.Stevens@tamuc.edu or upload to the "Document Upload System" (instructions for the "Document Upload System" are emailed to you after the University receives your application to the program).

dots ONE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Only one letter of recommendation is required. There is not a template for this letter. The Recommendation Letter is usually from a former professor or supervisor who knows you and your abilities to do graduate level work. It is best if the document is submitted as a PDF. Please submit your letter to the Graduate School via Rebecca.Stevens@tamuc.edu or upload to the "Document Upload System" (instructions for the "Document Upload System" are emailed to you after the University receives your application to the program).

Do you need to take the GRE? Most likely not! We require at least one of the following:

  • Official GRE scores

  • TAMUC Graduate Certificate Program in Criminal Justice (12hr) with GPA of, at least a 3.0 or higher

  • Completed master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 3.0 overall graduate GPA

  • An awarded bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with:

    • an overall GPA of at least a 3.00 or,

    • at least a 3.00 GPA on the last 60 hours of the degree

dots Diploma/Certificate

We will need official/original documents. If those documents happen to be the only copies you have in possession, the Graduate School can mail them back to you upon request. If you would like your documents mailed back to you, please include 1) a note indicating which documents you would like mailed back to you and 2) a pre-stamped return envelope with your mailing address. Both of these
items need to be included in the package that you are sending with your original documents.

dots Transcripts

We will need official/original documents. If they are not translated into English, they will need to be sent to an evaluation agency, such as http://www.wes.org in advance. If those documents happen to be the only copies you have in possession, the Graduate School can mail them back to you upon request. If you would like your documents mailed back to you, please include a prestamped return envelope with your mailing address in the package with your original documents.

dots Proof of English language proficiency, such as
  • Official TOEFL (IBT at least 79, CBT at least 213, or PBT at least 550). Scores must be less than two years old.

  • IELTS (at least overall 6.00 band). Scores must be less than two years old.

  • Completion of advanced level of the English Language Institute (www.tamuc.edu/ELI)

  • Completed undergraduate or graduate degree from a country where English is the national/native language (ex: Canada, U.S.A.). You must have studied within the country, not at a branch/satellite campus in a non-English speaking country.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

When you submit your ApplyTexas application, please allow one full business day for our University to receive your information. Once we receive your application, you will be sent a confirmation email from the Graduate School that contains information regarding your application and your student ID number (CWID). While most of your application items may be emailed directly to the Graduate School via Rebecca.Stevens@tamuc.edu, the Graduate School will also provide you instructions on how to use the "Document Upload System" as an alternative submission method.

You will continue to work with your Program Coordinator, Louis Lufkin (Louis.Lufkin@tamuc.edu) to complete the application requirements and start your journey as a Master's in Applied Criminology student at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Please note, all application materials should be sent to the Graduate School, not your Program Coordinator.

Once your application is complete, your information will be sent to the Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice for review. The application review process may take up to two weeks.
