Dr. Maite Martinez-Garcia

Martinez Garcia

Visiting Scholar

I received my B.A. in English translation and interpreting at the University of Alicante (Spain), my first MA in Linguistics and a graduate certificate in TESOL at the University of North Texas, and my second MA in Linguistics, a graduate certificate in second language studies, and my PhD in Linguistics from the University of Kansas. In August 2016, I joined the Texas A&M University-Commerce community as an Instructor of Spanish, where I am teaching both undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Literature and Languages. My research interests lie in two main areas: Bilingualism and second language (L2) speech perception (specifically how certain suprasegmental cues may be employed during online word recognition). While primarily focusing on these two aspects of the acquisition and processing of language, I also have experience in the study of native speakers’ and L2 learners’ ability to process morphology and in the assessment of L2 proficiency.
