Graduate students in the Mathematics Department may get the following financial supports. Some are competitive. Please contact the Department Head, Dr. Tingxiu Wang (tingxiu.wang@tamuc.edu, 1-903-886-5958) for timely consideration.

  1. Graduate Assistantship ($8000/ academic year, $1333 for each of summer terms): The Mathematics Department offers graduate assistantship to qualified students. A graduate assistant will take at least 6 credit hours per semester, and work 20 hours per week with duties such as teaching, tutoring, facilitating supplemental instruction, tutoring, paper grading or assisting faculty. A graduate assistant may also receive tuition remission or in-state tuition.     To apply for graduate teaching assistantship, one must apply to the mathematics graduate program (http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/applyOnline.aspx), and submit official transcripts and GRE scores to the Graduate School.
  2. Mathematics Departmental Scholarships ($1000 ~ $3000 per year, competitive): Students need to apply for the math departmental scholarships between Jan. 15 and March 15 each year. Depending on available amount of funds, competitive students may receive an amount between $500 and $3000 per year. Students who receive a mathematics departmental scholarship may also qualify for in-state tuition. Mathematics departmental scholarships are awarded once a year in April, and the scholarships are used for the next academic year.

    New students must apply for full admission to the mathematics graduate program, and submit official transcripts and GRE scores to the Graduate School before March 15 each year. (Apply at http://web.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/applyOnline.aspx). In addition to admission to the Graduate Program, you need to apply through MyLeo Financial Aid Portal before March 15.
  3. Tutoring, paper grading, or assisting a faculty: The Mathematics Department offers work opportunities for graduate students as tutors, paper graders, or assistant to a faculty. The wage depends on work hours per week.
  4. Rollover scholarship ($1000): A senior who are graduating will get the Rollover Scholarship by directly attending the Graduate School right after receiving a Bachelor’s degree from A&M Commerce. No special application is needed.
  5. Supplemental Stipend ($2000/year, Competitive): Math students who receive a graduate assistantship may be recommended for this stipend by the Mathematics Department. No application is needed.
