Student Organizations

Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi is an international scholastic and professional financial information honors society. The primary objective of the society is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the fields of accounting, finance and management information systems.

National Association for Black Accountants

National Association for Black Accountants (NABA) is dedicated to bridging the opportunity gap for black accounting and finance professionals by providing leadership and technical training, as well as networking and career opportunities. NABA is the largest professional membership organization focused specifically on African-Americans and people of color in the accounting, finance and business-related fields.

The Finance Society

The aim of the Finance Society is to help in the development of the next generation of finance professionals from A&M-Commerce, from degree plan through career. The society is an active student organization in the College of Business that is focused on advising and guiding in the professional, educational and social development of students interested in finance and economics.

Scholarships

As an accounting or finance student, you have access to department scholarships that are specific to your degree.

Jim Mann Family Endowment

Awarded to marketing or accounting majors. Students must have junior or senior classification and be in good standing with the university (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better).

Bobby & Linda Carmichael Accounting Student Organization Endowment

Given to the outstanding member of Beta Alpha Psi each semester. Based on points earned for BAP activities. Awarded at fall and spring banquets.

Fifth Year Accounting Student Scholarship Program

Sponsored by the Texas State Board of Public Accountants. Scholarship applications must be submitted using TSBPA forms. See accounting department faculty for application information, including the due date. Review the requirements.

TSCPA Accounting Education Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the Texas Society of CPAs Accounting Education Foundation. The foundation provides scholarship assistance to undergraduate accounting students who plan to become Texas Certified Public Accountants and enter the accounting profession. Scholarship applications must be submitted using TSCPA AEF application forms. See accounting department faculty for application information, including the due date. Recipients must have a high cumulative college GPA (typically 4.0) and perform well in accounting classes.

MBA Alumni Endowment

For graduate students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Accepted in good standing into the A&M-Commerce MBA program.
  2. An undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.2 on the last sixty hours.
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.25 on any graduate work.
  4. A full-time graduate student in good standing as defined by the university.

Haskell & Jean Miracle MBA Scholarship Endowment

For graduate students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Accepted in good standing into the A&M-Commerce MBA program.
  2. An undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.25 on the last sixty hours.
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.25 on any graduate work.
  4. A full-time graduate student in good standing as defined by the university.

Newt D. Becker Scholarship

Becker Professional Education offers its scholarship to help students fulfill their dreams of earning the CPA credential. The scholarship criteria are based on demonstration of financial need and traits important to Newt: high moral character, strong leadership qualities and commitment to community service. Review the requirements.

Dallas ACFE Scholarships

The Dallas Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is offering several scholarships to accounting students.

Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Be an accounting, auditing or criminal justice major
  • Have a major field GPA AND overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have completed at least 12 semester hours of major field coursework (9 semester hours for graduate students) prior to the current spring semester
  • Have at least one semester remaining to complete your degree after the current spring semester, or be pursuing graduate study beginning in the forthcoming fall semester
  • Will be a full-time student (9 undergraduate hours or 6 graduate hours) in the next fall semester

Dallas CPA Society Scholarships

In 1988 the Dallas CPA Society and Philip Vogel & Company, PC established the Dallas CPA Society Scholarship Fund in memory of the Vogel firm’s founder and chairman. The DCPAS Scholarship Program is an expression of our deep appreciation for the many contributions of Philip Vogel.

To be considered for a scholarship, a student must:

  • Attend one of the following Dallas area colleges or universities: Southern Methodist University, A&M-Commerce, University of North Texas, or the University of Texas at Dallas.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a junior or senior accounting major, or a graduate student in accounting, with a minimum of 15 accounting credit hours through the current fall semester.
  • Applicants must have the intent of becoming a Certified Public Accountant and entering the accounting profession upon graduation.
  • Have a minimum accounting GPA of 3.5.

William Carroll Adams Scholarship

Students applying for this scholarship will be enrolled in Mayo College. Upon the completion of an undergraduate economics course (Principles of Economics), students are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The award will be given at the end of the freshman or sophomore year. The application process will include an application form and an essay. PHASE II ” Students eligible for this award will be classified as juniors or seniors at Texas A&M University-Commerce. They will be Accounting & Finance majors and maintain a total GPA of 3.0 or better. The application process will include an application form and an essay. The Accounting & Finance Department will be responsible for distribution and collection of scholarship applications.

  • To be eligible for this award, the students must complete both of the undergraduate economics courses (Principles of Economics or equivalent).
  • Be classified as junior, senior, or graduate students at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
  • Applicants will be Accounting or Finance majors and a total GPA of 3.0 or better will be preferred.
  • Scholarships office will be responsible for distribution and collection of scholarship applications. The application process will include an application form and an essay.
  • The scholarship award amount will be determined by the departmental selection committee based on the essay. The selection committee will include at least one senior and one junior economics faculty member.
  • Must write a Thank You Letter to the Accounting & Finance Department Chair

Lester “Bill” Stone Scholarship

No specific criteria — Students majoring in Accounting or Finance.

Glen Gatlin Scholarship

No specific criteria — Students majoring in Accounting or Finance.

Drs. Donald and Marcia Hakala Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full-time student in good standing pursuing a degree from the College/Department of Accounting & Finance (in accordance with University scholarship selection policies). Recipient must be a Texas (in-state) resident. Recipient shall be majoring in either Accounting or Finance and classified at the junior, senior or graduate level A GPA of 3.0 overall AND in the major field of study shall be required. This is a renewable scholarship; the recipient may re-apply for this scholarship annually.
