WHY SHOULD YOU GET A JUMP START?

The Summer II term for A&M-Commerce begins on July 10, 2023. Why wait until Fall to begin one of the most important journeys you’ll take in life? There are benefits available to starting your college experience early, here are a few:

  • Gain an early start to college as a new incoming first-year or transfer student by enrolling in Summer II 2023 courses which begin July 10.
  • Choose your own educational experience. You can decide to attend either the A&M-Commerce Main Campus or the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location for various program areas. Visit the academic program pages to learn more: https://www.tamuc.edu/dallas
  • Option to participate in summer student engagement experiences.
  • Gain an early experience with living on campus during the summer if attending the A&M-Commerce Main Campus.
  • Meet eligibility criteria and receive the President’s Promise Scholarship, which pays 100% of tuition costs.

How Do You Earn Your Degree Tuition-Free?

  1. Apply for admission to A&M-Commerce. Already admitted? You may move your Fall 2023 application to Summer II 2023 (Summer II term begins on July 10, 2023).
  2. Review eligibility criteria for scholarships available to new incoming Jump Start College students (below).
  3. Complete the 22-23 FAFSA or TASFA form by the June 30, 2023 deadline.
  4. Consider attending an upcoming Registration Rally for full onsite enrollment support services to complete any remaining enrollment checklist items.

THE PRESIDENT'S PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

New incoming first-year freshman and transfer students who “Jump Start” College and meet eligibility criteria are awarded the President’s Promise Scholarship beginning in Summer II 2023 (as funding is available).

The following eligibility criteria are required without exception:

  • Be admitted and enter A&M-Commerce in the summer of graduation from high school, or a two-year school with an earned Associate's Degree or 45 credit hours without gaps in enrollment and
  • Be enrolled full-time beginning summer II 2023 and continuing for fall 2023 and spring 2024 as a first-time new undergraduate student working towards their first undergraduate degree at A&M-Commerce and
  • Qualify for a federal Pell grant or the equivalent demonstrated need as defined by TASFA and have a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $85,000 or less and
  • Be a Texas resident for tuition purposes.

The President's Promise Scholarship covers all tuition not covered by other grants or scholarships and will meet 100 percent of the student’s tuition costs.

REGENTS' ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP

“Jump Start” College students who have been awarded the President's Promise Scholarship beginning in Summer II 2023 may also receive the Regents' Access Scholarship which pays for on-campus Summer II 2023 housing and meals at the A&M-Commerce Main Campus plus an additional year of on-campus housing and meals.

Jump Start students who receive a waiver to live at home, enroll in all online courses, or are not required to live on campus (such as those who choose to “Jump Start” College by attending the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location) are not eligible for the Regents’ Access Scholarship.

What are the criteria for the President's Promise Scholarship?

The President’s Promise Scholarship is offered to new incoming undergraduate students who meet all of the following criteria, without exception (as funding is available):

Are “Jump Start” College students required to live in on-campus housing at the A&M-Commerce Main Campus?

A “Jump Start” College student may be eligible for a waiver from the on-campus live-on requirement. However, if a “Jump Start” College student is required to live in on-campus housing, attends the A&M-Commerce Main Campus, and is a President’s Promise awardee, they will also receive the Regents’ Access Scholarship; which pays for on-campus Summer II 2023 housing and meals plus an additional year of on-campus housing and meals not covered by other grants and scholarship. (Summer II 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024 only. Terms and conditions apply).  The Regents’ Access Scholarship is not available to students who are not required to live in on-campus housing, such as those students who live at home or attend the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location.

If a student is already admitted for the Fall 2023 term, can they decide to “Jump Start” College and change their intended first term of study from Fall 2023 to Summer II 2023?

Yes, if new incoming first-year freshmen or transfer students have already been admitted for the Fall 2023 and now would like to “Jump Start” College, they should move their application from Fall 2023 to Summer II 2023 by completing the Move my application form.

Students who decide to “Jump Start” College must also file a 22-23 FAFSA or TASFA by June 30, 2023, to be considered for scholarships.
