Southern Methodist University (SMU) recently hired A&M-Commerce alumnus Cesar Quezada as its inaugural director of Mustang Scholars and the First-Generation Initiative. The Mustang Scholars initiative provides financial and academic support to qualified students while the First-Generation Initiative (FGI) ensures academic success for first-generation students at SMU.
An SMU press release states that Quezada previously served as the associate director of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Division at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and as the assistant director for the Multicultural Center at the University of North Texas.
Quezada graduated from A&M-Commerce in 2019 with a bachelor's in psychology. During his time at A&M-Commerce, he was an active student leader who served as president of the A&M-Commerce Latino American Mentorship Program and as a Lion Ambassador.
