How do you help students?

In my role as assistant director of leadership and service, I help students enhance their leadership skills through campus-wide leadership initiatives, programs and workshops. In addition, I coordinate civic engagement and educational pieces in our office, like voter registration and education around civic/election issues. I also coordinate all service-oriented activities, including Operation Blue and Gold, our campus’s annual services day, and Lions Against Hunger, an annual initiative to tackle food insecurity. If you want to enhance your leadership skills or become active in the community via community services, come visit with me in the Intercultural Engagement and Leadership office!

A Conversation with Jay

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

A&M-Commerce is a great campus that will give you opportunities to develop your leadership skills in an environment that is very welcoming and supportive of your success. You will be pushed to become your best self and leave prepared to start your career. You will also make connections and build relationships with individuals who are dedicated to your success, not only as students but as individuals.

What do you like most about your career?

I love connecting and working with students throughout all points of their educational journeys. I enjoy watching them achieve all that they set out to achieve during their time in college. I also love that that I can help celebrate students’ big wins but also be someone they can come to during some of their most challenging moments. I enjoy being the very professional that I needed when I was a student.
