Juana Lim is a Texas native and a first-generation college graduate. Her college journey was challenging because Juana had no idea what the college process was like, and language was always a barrier. As Juana found her way, her professors, classmates and advisors were an amazing support system. Juana is glad that they helped her when she wanted to study abroad and attend graduate school. With these experiences, Juana understands many of the students she advises. She loves working with them and seeing how they go from new students to confident graduates.

Family is big part of Juana's life. She loves visiting her family in Mexico because she feels carefree and joyful being surrounded by her cultural heritage. Juana met her husband while studying abroad at Korea University. She enjoys visiting her husband's family and friends in South Korea. Food is a way to learn more about who we are person, the significance in our culture, and brings us together at the end of the day to vent or rejoice. If you scroll through her phone gallery, you will discover that Juana is a foodie!

A Conversation With Juana

How do you help students at A&M-Commerce?

Helping others has always been a passion of mine and providing students the resources and guidance they need to accomplish their goals is rewarding. The college experience can be overwhelming for some. It's important for me to let our students know that I am part of their support system. Whether they have questions about their courses, career path or personal concerns, I'm here to help them feel reassured and find solutions.

What do you like most about being an advisor for students?

What I like the most about being an advisor is seeing how our students grow and develop throughout their college journey. I find the greatest joy in listening to our students talk about their accomplishments and goals for the future. For many, this is a time for them to explore countless opportunities they didn't think were possible like studying abroad or becoming an organization president. I was also a student not so long ago, unsure about what to do during my low times. And I'm here to tell our students that anything is possible! As an advisor, I want all our students to know that the campus community is here to help you be successful.

What are your motivations and goals?

My greatest goal is to ensure that students at A&M-Commerce feel like they are part of a big welcoming family. It's important to me that they feel supported and free to be who they wish to be. Additionally, my greatest motivation is listening to the excitement in our students' voices when they talk about their plans. It's a constant reminder that our students will soon be amazing contributors to the global society.
