Mathematics education research is focused on contributing to the understanding of effective geometry and calculus instruction for pre-service secondary teachers, strengthening of secondary mathematics education majors, influencing the instruction of college geometry and calculus at the state and regional levels, the influence of formative assessment on building classroom community in mathematics, and the efficacy of integrating schema-based instruction (SBI) within a problem-based learning framework. The research on mathematics education implements high-impact practices in classrooms, including the use of mathematics history, supplemental instructions, problem-based and inquiry-based learning, flipped classrooms, peer-led learning, and peer-tutoring.
