CID 1300 – The Student and The University

Students explore the intersection of learning, cognition, and motivation to develop learning strategies while adjusting to the University environment. The course strengthens students' communication and critical thinking skills by helping them negotiate common challenges of their first year in college. Through attention to the whole person, students grow in personal wellness, financial and information literacy, and career readiness. This course satisfies three hours of the Component Area Option (090) of the Texas Core Curriculum.

Peer Mentors

Sometimes it makes more sense to meet peer to peer. Get connected with our upperclassmen Peer Mentors who are there to support and guide students.

Our Peer Mentors are student staff members that provide support to our first-year students. They are sophomore, junior and senior students across a variety of majors that know what it is like to transition into becoming a college student. Peer Mentors work alongside the College Life Coaches within the CID 1300: The Student and the University course and engage with regular meetings with the class cohort. Peer Mentors are also available to students outside of the CID1300 course, and can assist students with a variety of topics:
